Wait... Why isn't there one already? Well dear reader, none of the models previously proposed to Government have proved themselves an efficient use of public resources (try saying that fast five times). The passion was there, but the technology and talent mix wasn't effective enough to justify it. Until now 🤞.
Skin Check Champions, our master charity, have been running free, educational skin check clinics in high risk communities since 2010 - after our mate Wes was tragically killed by skin cancer at the age of 26. In his memory, we've dedicated ourselves to developing an early detection program worthy of Government support. But to prove it, we need to pilot it.
So, we've partnered up with the University of South Australia as well as other healthcare experts and recently won a $150,000 grant, researching a capacity building, AI assisted screening program for those who need it most.
Codenamed - Project Check Mate.
$150,000 is a brilliant amount to start with. But we'll need another $250,000 to make sure it has a proper, sustainable impact.
Which is where you come in...
According to our health economist, every dollar invested in this project will return thirty back in savings to the healthcare system. How's that for an ROI!? Not to mention the savings from not losing friends or family...
That's how many Aussies are likely to do battle with skin cancer according to the AIHW. It's a scary statistic, and shows just how much of an indiscriminate killer this can be for everyone living in this beautiful 'sunburnt country'.
If detected early, almost every skin cancer can be successfully treated. It's the key statistic that our charity zero'd in on when forming our strategic focus. So by helping Aussies 'get a skin check', we're saving a lot of lives.
